Event Title

Sustainable spaces, sustainable places: panel discussion and workshop on the efficacy of student-led environmental sustainability initiatives in community development

Description

Student-led environmental sustainability initiatives serve an integral role in student and community development. Through a panel discussion and workshop, this session will provide insight regarding how student participation in environmental initiatives serve as a valuable educational tool which addresses environmental concerns, while promoting community development. Student panelists, representing post-secondary schools in the Pacific Northwest, will discuss varied approaches, methods, and issues in addressing environmental sustainability. The panel will talk about the extension of their education into the community and the efficacy of their efforts. The panel discussion will then segway into a sustainability workshop. This workshop will provide a means for participants to examine the spaces which they operate within and determine how the application of geography or environmental studies can serve to transition spaces not only into places for themselves as individuals, but also for their community. The workshop serves to connect individuals throughout the Pacific Northwest, in order promote and support student-led environmental sustainability efforts and further the development of community.
