Event Title

Blanchard Mountain land use crisis: conflict resolution with game theory

Description

In this logging controversy the protagonists are the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and a coalition of environmental groups known as the Northwest Ecosystems Alliance (NWEA). Landslide risk and land use management are key issues in the Blanchard Mountain conflict. Blanchard Mountain is located on the shared boundaries of Whatcom and Skagit counties with shore line on the marine waters Skagit bay. The DNRs mandate is to maximize timber harvest and NWEAs objective is to prevent logging. Landslide risk and land use management are the key issues. A final compromise has been reached that represents both parties agreeing to less than their respective goals.
