Abstract
A timeline compiling U.S. federal legislation from 1776 to 2025 outlining how the Federal banking system has been created, unchartered, reestablished, and continually updated over the lifespan of the nation. This document also includes digressions from legislation to explore private sector reactions and actions to such legislation, including the establishment of the American Bankers Association and the rise of JPMorgan Chase & Co. Such literature is important to understanding where the banking system has been in order to better inform and project where banking, and the U.S. financial sector as a whole, is headed.
