Abstract
On land tours, guides lead interpretive hikes on various trails within the Tongass National Forest. Throughout the excursion, guests are taught about the natural history of Southeast Alaska as well as the indigenous people who have inhabited and cherished the land for centuries. Along 4 the trail, guides explain the effects that the Mendenhall Glacier has on the surrounding region, as well as the process by which a temperate rainforest begins, matures, and climaxes following the retreat of the ice. To help guests further connect with the forest that they are hiking through, guides help identify and educate on the different plant and wildlife species that the group comes across.
