Abstract
While the organization began as a farm-based learning center, they took the initiative to impact kids on a more effective level by meeting them where kids from all walks of life go; their schools. Gardening, cooking, and eating programs are hosted throughout the school year and even during the seasonal breaks too, often with the help of Americorps service members. These programs range from summer day camps to after school clubs. Common Threads also recognizes the importance in community accessibility to healthy food, and holds after-school meals, and summer breakfast and lunch programs in-person bringing the food to them. Even when the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown initially occurred, the organization was quick to recognize their work was more important than ever and worked to provide online services like cooking classes as well as emergency meals and fresh harvests for hungering community members in need.
