Abstract
Sustainable Connections is a Bellingham based organization that partners with other local businesses and organizations to take part in developing more equitable and healthy communities Sustainable Connections focusses its actions on food systems, housing, energy, and waste (Sustainable Connections, 2022a). The Whatcom Housing Alliance is an alliance of multiple organizations such as for-profit and non-profit housing developers, private business owners, public health proponents and others (Whatcom Housing Alliance, 2020), and which partners with Sustainable Connections and other organizations to work towards a shared goal of developing equitable and healthy communities, through increasing housing diversity and affordability (WHA, 2020). The Green Building and Smart Growth Program is a collaboration between the Whatcom Housing Alliance, Sustainable Connections, and other organizations. The program promotes the goals of Sustainable Connections, the Whatcom Housing Alliance, and local businesses which it supports, and defines smart growth as development that promotes increased infill and mixed-use development, community involvement, housing variety and transportation reform (Sustainable Connections, 2022b).
