Abstract
As the 2025 GIS Intern for the Kitsap County Department of Community I have used ArcGIS Pro along side department tools such as SmartGov and Parcel Search to support local environmental decisions by updating the existing county wetlands GIS dataset. Working with the department GIS analyst, we created a better record of wetlands throughout the area with the goal of improving accessibility and usability for future planning. In updating wetlands from non-digital sources, we improved the existing attribution scheme to better reflect the accuracy and shortcoming of wetland data in Kitsap. In addition to improving the wetland dataset, I assisted with the updating of the department FAQ page in order to improve community outreach. I also was provided with the opportunity to meet with leaders from various other projects such as the Abandoned and Derelict Vessel program, the Noxious Weeds Program, and Kitsap Natural Recovery Asset Management Program. These meetings exposed me to the various ways GIS tools can be implemented to promote environmental recovery and justice.
