Description
In the fall of 2017, Kevin Spacey was publicly accused of sexual assault by Anthony Rapp. In response, Spacey released a statement via Twitter addressing the allegations while also coming out as a gay man. This project analyzes the language of Spacey’s statement and identifies the linguistic and social devices that Spacey uses to deflect blame and draw attention away from potential scandal. It also explores the socio-political impact of Spacey’s statement on the LGBT+ community.
