ECO Net – A Social Network to Support the Stewardship of Puget Sound
Presentation Abstract
Solving complex, societal problems, such as recovering the Salish Sea, requires social and institutional infrastructures through which changes in behavior and social norms can spread. Towards that end, the Puget Sound Partnership created a social network, the ECO NET, to address Puget Sound issues. ECO Net is a collective of environmental education, outreach and communication professionals whose work engages the public in the recovery of Puget Sound. The ECO Net fosters collaboration, increases information exchange, builds and strengthens relationships among organizations, and develops the social capital necessary to achieve Puget Sound recovery goals. To support the network, the Partnership provides ECO Net members with training on effective tools and techniques for behavior change programs, financial support of local and regional stewardship efforts, and vetted outreach materials for use in their programs.
