Presentation Abstract

Characterizing changes in the phytoplankton communities in the Salish Sea is a daunting, ever changing, and a rewarding pursuit that requires collaboration of a diverse group of partners. The relationship of these partners to the sea provides the enthusiasm for exploration, which when combined with the proper research tools, creates a scientific outcome that benefits all community members. Bringing unique views to the table provides unique approaches to research problems from a variety of angles and areas of expertise that have helped to fashion multidimensional solutions to long-term mysteries. The presenters in this panel have intentionally collaborated together and embrace diversity of both people and disciplines critical to their work. We will provide examples of how by working together we have been able to achieve more than our science objectives to achieve rewarding and multifaceted research solutions that benefit the individual, the research collective and society.
