Event Title

Canadian and American earning disparity regarding berry production

Description

We will be discussing the different variables of farming berries in the Fraser Valley, on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the border. We will be investigating the effect of pesticide use and regulation by the governments of both countries on berry production. Our poster will include a discussion of the benefits/ disadvantages of government policies concerning trade and market factors. The market factors that we will be comparing are; the actual markets that the berry producers sell to, the annual revenue of berry production in both countries, and the average cost per acre of producing berries. Our research will provide details regarding the actual effect of government regulation on the farming industry in both Canada and the United States within the Fraser lowlands. Two other factors that we will include in our poster are the price of labor on berry farms and the price of land on which berries can be produced. We will discuss patterns that have emerged, due to the price of berries and cost of farming, concerning the economic viability of farms in the United States and Canada.
