Event Title

Great unkown: the Canadian Oil Sands Project and its relatively unrecognized economic and environmental impact in the United States

Description

It has come to my knowledge that the Canadian Oil Sands Project in Alberta is a relatively unknown issue for those living in the United States. As one of the largest suppliers of energy and natural resources to the United States, Canada is largely a mystery to those living south of the border. My question is to what extent are the economic and environmental impacts associated with the Canadian Oil Sands Project recognized by those living in the United States and who are (and will be) directly impacted by exploitation of this camouflaged natural resource so readily used by many around the world. The main boundaries of the project focus on the United States and Canada, however other international involvement presents many different economic twists. If my notion is right, little will be found in literature produced in the United States concerning the Oil Sands Project, reflecting an overarching mentality of Canada as being "Americanized". The topic brings up issues of co-dependence on both issues of economic and environmental concern and is sure to be a major are of discussion and debate in the future.
