Abstract

This paper explores the development of the author's Jewish identity through the lens of autoethnography. She explored how her family history of surviving the Holocaust shaped the growth of her identity. Interviews were conducted with family members to ask questions about how they view her Jewish identity and culture, and how they were influential in developing it. The paper explores past antisemitism and connects it to the present and future effects of antisemitism, as well as the importance of a connection to Israel and the Jewish people. This exploration of the effects and trauma of the Holocaust is shown to have deeply shaped the perspective of the author on their Jewish identity, as well as the effect on their growth in the future.
