Abstract
Apples & Overcoats is a novel in progress, and this is the first third of the work. As a self-contained and solitary pseudo-workaholic, Will Beckett was able to ignore the growing rift between his professional ethics and personal ideals until his failed tobacco campaign and some angry mothers get him suspended. With time on his hands and nothing to wear but suits, he is finally able to interact with his friends--a con man that lives next door and a transient cat named Bill.
